The 2006 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Sergio Zenato wraps around the palate with layers of mocha, espresso, Morello cherries, spices, mint and new leather. It is a wonderfully plush, expressive wine loaded with aromatic and flavor complexity. There is plenty of inner perfume and sweetness, but what impresses most is the wine’s sense of structure and length. Darker notes flesh out on the finish adding a baritone register to the fruit that is highly appealing. This is a fabulous showing from Zenato. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. (WA95, 2016)
ZENATO AMARONE RISERVA 2007 750ml
The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Sergio Zenato takes a long and hard look at Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Croatina. This is a stunning wine with an oversized mouthfeel and unforgettable intensity. The bouquet pulls back to reveal black cherry, barbecue smoke, dried chocolate mocha, dark vanilla and spicy cinnamon cake. You definitely feel the thrust and the power of the alcohol, but the 2007 vintage delivers the rich extract and tannin to withstand it. Drink 2014-2024. (WA94+, 2013).
