Essential Workout Gear For Every Fitness Level

7 October 2022

Take your workout routine to the next level with a yoga bolster, portable weights, locally designed sweat-wicking tights and more.

Recover and Recuperate

If you clicked, you may already have had a thought or two about changing up your fitness routine; it could be going for fuss-free yoga sessions after work, or organising HIIT exercise dates with your friends at the trendy gyms popping up all over town.

Here’s a short guide to help you build a better workout system. You’ll want to feel confident of your fitness levels and more satisfied after each session. Plus, check out some interesting and practical fitness items that’ll give you a boost while exercising.

Starting your yoga journey

Now that many of us have adopted a hybrid work schedule, home workouts are one of the most convenient ways to get yourself moving after a long day of sitting at your table. But, don’t be too quick to hit up intense HIIT or “fat burning” videos. Instead, opt for some beginner yoga poses to stretch out sore spots and tone up your muscles without applying too much pressure on your joints. If this is your first time doing yoga, don’t make the number of poses a priority. Instead, focus on your alignment (ensure that your hips are open and your back is straight) and the proper execution of the poses. You may wish to consider getting quality yoga mats, blocks and sportswear if this is going to be a regular thing for you.

Ramping up the intensity

Cardio fanatics are always looking for better ways to sweat. Going through the same routine can sometimes feel mundane if you’ve been working out for a while. On top of that, you’re unsure if there are going to be actual results from the workout. But it’s an easy fix - if you already own a smartwatch, be sure to keep it on during your fitness sessions. Plus, it’ll give you a holistic view of how your health is being influenced by the way you workout. Make adjustments accordingly after monitoring your heart rate, oxygen levels, sleep cycle and more.

If you’re thinking of challenging yourself, additional resistance or weight helps build strength. And you don’t necessarily have to buy a full set of dumbbells or install a free weights machine in your home (though, you’re welcome to do so). Save space with portable gear like elastic bands and arm weights, all of which can be stowed away easily once you’re done with your routine.

Pursuing a new sport

Once you’ve tried out multiple routines, you may end up finding something that you enjoy. Speed skating, boxing or aerial yoga are just some of the sports/workouts that make great hobbies to destress after work. You’ll get more excited about each day and motivated to check off your list of fitness goals.

And while this fresh addition to your once mundane routine is great, don’t forget to take things a step at a time. Allow your muscles to recuperate to prevent injury, especially if you’re doing these things without the help of a coach. Investing in a deep tissue massage gun or a sports roller will aid in loosening up muscle knots - a common occurrence for those who play intense sports regularly.
