Introduction to Bone Inlay Crafting:
The process of inlaying begins with a design or pattern which is carved out from a material. In our case it’s either mother of pearl or cruelty-free black water buffalo bones that are collected from buffalos that died of natural causes. The bones are thoroughly washed before they are carefully hand-cut and laid piece by piece on furniture.
With a base object (Ipse Ipsa Ipsum furnishings are wood), impressions are made to match said pattern or design so that the delicate pieces of bone can be meticulously inserted onto the surface. The carved bone pieces are then surrounded by contrasting resin for an immaculately smooth finish.
Handcrafted furniture with bone pieces intricately inlaid, is one of Ipse's signature techniques and materials used - to create striking patterns - often floral or geometric, with contrasting colours and materials.
Bone inlay furniture are thus ornate and eye-catching, making them coveted home decor pieces. Our master craftsmen with seven generations of bone inlay craftsmanship, trace their lineage to the armoury of Humayun.
