This book is the timeless collection of classic Peranakan recipes by Mrs Lee Chin Koon, first published in 1974. Shermay Lee, granddaughter of Mrs. Lee (1907-1980), with the experience of professional chef, has recaptured and updated her grandmother’s traditional flavours into two fully illustrated cookbooks.
Volume 1 reveals the secrets of Peranakan cooking and the Nonya’s kitchen, while Volume 2 features a delightful mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian recipes, including anecdotes explaining their origins.
The new Mrs. Lee’s Cookbook Peranakan Cuisine: Volume 1 is the recipient of two accolades, awarded by Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2003. In 2015, Singapore Airlines served several dishes, based on recipes from these cookbooks, on-board its outbound flights to celebrate Singapore’s Jubilee year. Shermay’s Nonya Curry Powder is a recreation of a hand-written heirloom recipe passed down by her grandma.
