CHATEAU LASCOMBES - MARGAUX - 2010

Château Lascombes vineyard occupies the most sought-after parcels in Margaux. Its vineyards cover 120 hectares in the Margaux appellation and 10 hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation. It is to this day one of the largest vineyards of the Crus Classés of 1855. Château Lascombes benefits from a variety of soils original for the appellation. The vineyard is divided into three distinct groups, roughly equivalent in size: a gravelly rump, which carries Cabernets Sauvignon and Petit Verdots, gravel clay where Merlots and Cabernets Sauvignon are planted, and finally clay-limestone plots where Merlot expresses himself perfectly; moreover, this grape variety dominates the vines of the vineyard, a uniqueness compared to the other Margaux crus.

Tasting Notes
The wine hits all cylinders in 2010. It has a gorgeously sweet nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, subtle barbecue smoke and charcoal followed by full body, beautiful intensity, great purity, stature and length. Needless to say, this is an example of modern-styled winemaking at its finest, and arguments that such wines will not age well, do not represent their terroir, and are soul-less, are totally groundless. This is one of the great Margaux wines of the vintage.
