Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé is a biodynamic, barrel-aged white wine made by Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon in Burgundy (France) with the Chardonnay variety.

Following in the footsteps of her father, Dominique Lafon founded Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon in 1999 at a time when Mâcon wines, from southern Burgundy, were known for their high volume production. But through this winemaker’s hard work, both in the vineyard and in the winery, she has managed to change the area’s reputation and her wines have gained the international recognition they deserve.

Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé comes from 6 hectares planted between 1950 and 1990. These vines lie 200 metres above sea level and are planted on clay and calcareous soil. The team works with organic agriculture, using biodynamic treatments, and before the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested manually.

Once the Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé grapes have been selected, they are pressed and begin fermentation at a low temperature with native yeasts. The wine then ages on lees in 45 hl casks and 500 l barrels for 10 months.

Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé is a lively wine that retains the full freshness, energy and acidity of the freshest fruit. Juicy and refreshing Burgundy Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes :
The 2020 Mâcon-Lilly-Lamartine was the last fruit to be picked in early September according to Dominique Lafon. It has a fresh, quite tensile bouquet with lemon curd and citrus peel, nicely defined and quite vigorous. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and is lightly spiced with a tangy and quite persistent finish. Excellent. Closure: Diam. Neal Martin, Vinous (December 2021)
