Created in the 16th century, the Château La Mission estate was first owned by the Rostaing and Lestonnac families. From the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century, 5 different owners ran the château.
The Chiapella family is one of them. As a major shipowner, it will make this vintage known in America. The Woltner family, for its part, will own La Mission from 1919. It will leave a legacy of a new type of vat allowing better control of fermentation. In 1983, the Dillon family, owners of the adjoining Château Haut-Brion, acquired the vineyard.
Prince Robert of Luxembourg, grandson of Douglas Dillon, became President of the estate in 2008. The management of the vineyard is, even today, ensured by Jean-Philippe Delmas.
Tasting Notes :
Deep garnet-purple in color, it is just a little muted to begin, soon unfurling to reveal slowly growing scents of crushed blackcurrants, black cherries, dark chocolate and candied violets with nuances of crushed rocks, tobacco leaf, forest floor and fragrant earth plus a hint of bergamot.
Medium-bodied and exquisitely elegant, the palate offers perfectly ripe, fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness with layer upon layer of perfumed fruit and a very long, ferrous-laced finish.
Grape Varieties:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

France
