Insider Skincare Tips from Local Beauty Brand Porcelain

27 February 2021

Pauline Ng, co-founder of award-winning local beauty brand, Porcelain, shares more about the newly relaunched skincare lines and her personal skincare routine.

Known for their award-winning spa and cult favourite skincare products, Porcelain was founded in 2009 by veteran aesthetician, Jenny Teng and her daughter, Pauline Ng. “Inspired by my mother’s passion for helping others achieve healthier skin with the empowering and transformative power of skincare, we decided to create Porcelain,” says Ng.

Their vision to create the future of skincare by leveraging craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology propelled them to grow Porcelain to be where it is today. With active and open communication with their customers, Porcelain’s treatments and products are designed and continuously reformulated to meet their needs.

Together with intensive research and development, they recently relaunched four skincare lines featuring new and improved products that are catered to different skin types and concerns.

  • Essentials: Porcelain’s Essentials range act as a backbone and foundation for a good skincare routine. Suitable for all skin types, this collection includes the basic necessities from cleanser to sunscreen.
  • Control: To cater to those with problematic skin, this range works to restore balance and control to the skin. The ingredients used help to curb inflammation, prevent breakouts and fight bacteria growth.
  • Soothe: Suitable for those with sensitive skin, Soothe is packed with ingredients that help calm the skin while its antioxidants and anti-bacterial properties helps boost and strengthen the skin’s healing ability.
  • Plus+: Formulated to be a lifelong skincare partner, Plus+ acts as a preventive skincare measure by treating imperfections before the first signs of ageing surfaces.

Here are some skincare tips from Ng, as she shares her personal skincare routine and favourite products.

1. Use The Right Skincare Products

Using the right type of skincare for your skin concerns will go a long way in helping your skin. Porcelain’s Essential series are suitable for all skin types, even those with sensitive skin.

“I have dry and sensitive skin hence the products that I choose to use are curated to address these key skin concerns. The first step to my morning skincare routine always begins with a refreshing cleanse. I use Porcelain’s Hydro Cleanser. For toning, I would spritz the Deep Hydrating Lotion,” shares Ng.

For those with more sensitive skin, the Botanical Sensitive Care Toner will do the trick in helping to achieve a healthier and calmer skin.

2. Moisturise Your Skin Generously

Contrary to popular belief, moisturising regularly and not only when it is dry helps to maintain the right level of moisture needed for your skin.

After cleansing and applying toner, don’t forget to apply serum before your moisturiser. Suitable for both day and night use, the HA+ Hydrating Serum is a concoction of dual-molecular hyaluronic acid and hydrating ingredients which counteracts signs of ageing and stimulates collagen regeneration. Each drop is also packed with a potent dose of antioxidants and probiotics to achieve a softer, smoother skin.

Like Ng, you can also mix the Deep Recovery Gel together with the Botanical Soothing Gel from Porcelain’s Soothe range as a moisturiser. It provides intense hydration for dry and stressed skin, while at the same time help to soothe and calm sensitive or agitated skin.

To keep acne skin at bay, try Porcelain’s Hydra Clear Gel. This specially formulated gel works to combat bacterial growth and reduce inflammation, while providing moisture to the skin. Ng recommends applying it on your T-Zone, as this gel also helps to rebalance the skin’s pH levels.

3. Always Apply Sunscreen

Though some may find wearing sunscreen troublesome, skipping this step would greatly affect your skin in the long run. The ultraviolet (UV) rays in the sun causes skin damage and premature UV-ageing which results in wrinkles, pigmentation and uneven skin tones. Sunscreen protects the skin by acting as a barrier to harmful UV rays.

A definite must-have for Ng to end her daily morning routine is Porcelain’s Skin Perfecting Moisturiser SPF30. Formulated with ingredients like Ceramide, Sodium Hyaluronate and Antarcticine, this tinted sunscreen not only provides protection against UV rays and blue-light, it also moisturises your skin while reducing pore congestion and promoting cell regeneration for healthier skin. Available in two shades, this oil free formula provides light to moderate coverage with a natural finish.

4. Make It a Habit To Double Cleanse

“For my night-time skincare routine, it always begins with double-cleansing. It’s a staple step regardless if I have makeup on or not,” recommends Ng.

Double cleansing is essential to achieve a deep and thorough cleanse. Porcelain’s Pre-cleansing Milk helps to soften the skin while removing any make-up, sunscreen, dirt and pollutants that have accumulated over the day from the surface of the skin. This in turns allow the second cleanse using regular cleansers like the Hydro Cleanser or Deep Cleansing Gel to be more effective at deeply cleansing your pores and any lingering dirt that can cause acne and skin irritation.

5. Mask or Exfoliate Once a Week

Ng recommends to take some time out to exfoliate and mask at home at least once a week, or whenever your skin is feeling stressed, especially if you don't have time for a facial.

Exfoliation help to unclog facial pores by removing dead skin cells and prepares the skin to better absorb subsequent skincare products that are applied. A non-abrasive exfoliator, the Natural Skin Refiner contains natural enzymes to soften dead skin cells, while pumping nutrients and vitamins into your skin.

Apart from exfoliation, the consistent use of facial masks is also beneficial for your skin. Made from coconut fibre, the Bio-Cellulose Mask is Ng’s go-to for when she needs that extra boost of hydration. Not only does the mask seal in all the moisture, it also contains natural enzymes that works to clarify the skin and prevent premature signs of ageing.
