How to Create Your Own Spa Day At Home

20 May 2021

Indulge in a little pampering spa session without leaving your home.

When it comes to showing a little love to your skin, you can do a lot more than just popping on a sheet mask. How often do you go for a facial, or better yet, set aside a dedicated day for a rejuvenating spa session? The occasional pampering can help to release tension and stress, and the good news – it can be done in the comfort of your own home.

From facial treatments to gel manicure, here are some ways to elevate your home spa experience.

Cleanse Your Face

Before applying your favourite toners, serums or masks, it is important to ensure that your face is properly cleansed and rid of any lingering dirt or oil accumulated throughout the day. For a more in-depth and efficient cleanse, try using a facial cleansing brush.

Using a combination of ultrasonic waves and micro-vibrations, LG’s Ultrasonic Cleanser delivers a thorough yet gentle cleanse by breaking up dead skin cells for easy exfoliation. At the same time, it helps to improve skin texture, reduce blackheads and clear pores. Its hypoallergenic silicone brush head along with four levels of intensity makes it suitable for different skin types.

Cellreturn’s Electric Face Cleanser is another powerful pore cleanser with 11,000 micro-vibrations per minute. Featuring a finger sensor which automatically activates the vibrations, this compact and easy-to-use option helps to clear your skin while minimising irritation. The Beure's Facial Brush on the other hand, includes a gentle massage function. With 15 speed settings to choose from, you are sure to find one that fits your cleansing needs.

Pamper Your Skin

Take your home spa experience up a notch by treating your skin to LED (light emitting diode) light therapy. A technology developed by NASA originally for plant growth experiments on shuttle missions, LED has since been used for skincare treatments, thanks to its ability to heal wounds.

LED light treatment uses different frequencies to tackle different concerns, such as blue light for acne outbreaks and red light for skin regeneration and to boost collagen.

Embark on your light therapy journey with the LG Pra.L Derma LED Mask. It utilises synergy between the red and infrared LED light to penetrate several layers of skin, resulting in firm and translucent skin. Together with strategic LED light placement on various facial zones based on LG’s youth indicators, daily use of the LED mask can help to brighten, refresh and reduce the effects of ageing on more susceptible areas of the skin.

Featuring a full spectrum of LED lights and its signature T-Sonic pulsations, Foreo’s UFO 2 offers a comprehensive mask treatment in 90 seconds by boosting skin’s radiance. With a choice of Cryo- and Thermo-therapy functions, this compact device can help to reduce pore size or soften skin to maximise the effects of the mask ingredients. For a soothing facial, pair this with Foreo’s UFO power activated masks to rejuvenate complexion and improve skin’s hydration.

Not forgetting your neck area, Neckle Ray Plus has 3 different LED modes, which uses a combination of near infrared, red and blue wavelengths to cater to different neck skin concerns. Ergonomically designed to provide a 360 degree care for the entire neck, it is recommended to use with a neck cream to reduce wrinkles while improving elasticity and texture of the neck.

Revitalise Your Eyes

The skin around the eyes is more delicate and quicker to show age and fatigue. Aside from regular use of eye creams, don’t forget to also pamper your eyes with a hydrating eye mask from time to time. For instance, Beauty Arsenal’s hydrogel eye mask covers the contours of your eyes, including the upper lids and the sides. Infused with natural ingredients that are environmentally friendly, it leaves your eyes moisturised and rejuvenated.
Est Lab’s Optimalift A+ Eye Contour cellulose eye mask, on the other hand, contains a high concentration of eye serum that can help tackle multiple eye concerns at once. You can use it standalone or pair it with Optimalift Intelligent Eye Revitaliser to customise your eye spa.
Powered by a combination of LED red light therapy, therapeutic hot compress and sonic vibrations, the revitaliser has 3 intensity levels and 9 different heat settings to cater to various comfort level and concerns. In addition to promoting blood circulation and detoxification, it enhances the absorption of eye care products and relaxes facial muscles to provide an energising and uplifting effect.

Indulge in a Facial Massage

After your skincare routine, use the ReFa CAXA RAY for a little soothing facial massage. Adopting a scooping and kneading motion, this contouring tool replicates the friction technique used in a massage to reduce facial and neck tensions while boosting circulation. Coupled with ReFa’s signature microcurrent technology and platinum rollers, it helps to tighten skin, sharpen features and minimise dark eye circles.

To work on specific areas around the eyes and mouth, try the ReFa S Carat Ray. With its push-point tip and petite size, this facial roller is designed to visibly tighten and rejuvenate skin that tends to slacken around the eyes and mouth.

Alternatively, you can also massage your face with a jade roller. It helps to reduce puffiness and release tensions on your face while stimulating blood circulation. Besides firming, the simple act of massaging your face with a roller can also be quite relaxing and comforting, which in turns help to enhance your well-being.

Tip: Keep the jade roller in the fridge to maximise its benefits as the cold temperature may help to reduce redness and brighten skin.

SnowFox’s Snowy Jade Set includes a facial roller and Gua Sha, which can both be used to massage the face and improve skin complexion and elasticity. Gua Sha is the practice of using a tool to apply pressure over the skin to relieve pain and tension. It can also be used to scrape lymphatic points under the chin, along the shoulders and neck. You can even soak the Gua Sha in hot water for 2-3 minutes to use it as a hot stone for massage.

Care for Your Hair

Whether you have curly, wavy, frizzy, straight or coloured hair, one thing we can all agree on is that hair care is just as important. Nourish your hair by treating it to a hair mask, such as Moroccanoil’s Restorative Hair Mask. Infused with antioxidant-rich argan oil, it conditions, hydrates and improves your hair’s shine, texture and elasticity effortlessly. All you need to do is to leave it on for 5 to 7 minutes before rinsing off to achieve glowing and healthy hair.

Follizin’s Rejuvenating Elixir is a fuss-free option that you can apply directly on the scalp after towel-drying your hair. Designed to counter different types of active oxygen and free radicals, this antioxidant scalp serum helps to reduce hair loss and the effects of ageing while keeping skin hydrated.

Elevate your hair-spa experience at home with Cellreturn’s Hair A-Ray. It uses a combination of red LED and near-infrared rays to penetrate your scalp to maximise the benefits of the hair serums used. With three different modes, hair and scalp care can be customised to stimulate hair growth and strengthen scalp while reducing overall hair loss.

Treat Your Nails

Give your nails a glow up with a DIY manicure session. Skip the hassle of painting your nails and waiting for them to dry completely by opting for nail wraps instead.

For instance, homegrown brand Emery & Co. has a variety of stylish designs that draws inspirations from all corners of the world. Designed to fit all nail lengths and sizes, all you need is 10 minutes to achieve an elegant set of manicured nails - simply apply the wraps to clean nails and file it down to your nail size. Tip: apply a layer of top coat for a longer lasting manicure.

On the other hand, if you are someone who loves gel-tips but can’t seem to achieve the desired effect at home, try MuseNCo’s press-on nails. Each set includes 36 nail tips that are taped with adhesive and coated with a layer of UV top coat for ease of application. Not to mention, these press-ons can be easily removed and you can even create your own styles by mixing and matching different nail sets.
