Nifty Essentials to Bring On Board Your Next Flight

3 June 2022

Pop them into your carry on and take your inflight experience to the next level.

Things can sometimes get a little uncomfortable when you’re on a long haul flight. Your seat neighbour is snoring and your throat is starting to feel parched due to being 30,000 feet up in the air. At this point you’re wishing you brought some noise-cancelling earphones and a bottle of water.

While not all of us are adept in packing a carry-on bag that carries all (or at least all we need for our flight), we’ve listed out some items to ensure that you’re fully enjoying your flight:

Rest and Relax

For those who are planning to catch a red-eye flight, the inflight experience can sometimes be a little rocky - especially when you’ve crying toddlers or loud passengers on board. A pair of headphones will not only shut out the noise, but you can also play calming music as you drift off to sleep. The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H95 is a great choice for travellers, as its Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation function will allow you to customise how much background sound you want to let in. Plus, the ear cushions are made out of lambskin and memory foam, making it comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Other than reducing the noise disturbance around you, you’ll want to make your seat as cosy and snug as you can. The Ostrichpillow Go Premium Neck Travel Pillow (right in picture) is an ergonomic addition to your carry-on. The 360° wrap design ensures that your neck and chin is well-supported when you’re sleeping upright in your plane seat. And to complete the experience, throw on this Travelmall eye mask (left in picture).

Body and Skin Care On The Fly

Cabin air tends to be extremely dry due to the high altitude, and your skin can end up feeling dehydrated after a long flight. To combat this, use a leave-in sleeping mask to lock in the moisture. This Sisley Velvet Sleeping Mask (left in picture) uses natural plant oils and extracts to soothe and hydrate your skin. On top of that, you can also use a calming face mist, like the Rooki Onsen Facial Mist (right in picture), to freshen up upon landing.

Your lips and hands are also prone to dryness when you’re in the cabin. A hydrating but non-oily lip balm like this one from Augustinus Bader (left in picture) will ensure that your lips don’t crack. For your hands, this L’occitane Shea Hand Cream (right in picture) will soothe any sore knuckles or dry cuticles. And if your knees or elbows need hydration, this can be a quick fix if you don’t have any body lotion on hand.

Finally, no one enjoys smelling funky on a flight, so it’s good to have a refillable perfume atomiser on hand for long haul flights. Fill it up with the perfume of your choice and spritz whenever needed.

Practical Must-Haves

Do you remember waking up mid-flight and feeling like your throat just got rubbed with sandpaper? It’s important to stay hydrated when you’re on board for two main reasons:

  • You don’t want to risk having a sore throat that’ll last for days and end up missing out on good food during your trip.
  • Being dehydrated indirectly lowers your immunity, making you more susceptible to airborne viruses. And by now, we already know how that’s a huge inconvenience.

To prevent that from happening, you can bring a water bottle and fill it up at the boarding gate. On top of that, dissolvable Vitamin C tablets are a great option to carry onboard for an immunity boost - they’re fuss-free and easy to use.

For those who have sensitive airways, you can now bring an air purifier with you while flying. And no, it’s not a bulky machine. The Aviair Travo Pur Personal Air Purifier is a compact machine that keeps your nasal passages clear while traveling. This handy device also emits millions of negative ions, which helps kill bacteria and alleviates our stress levels.
